Working
in Spain
As an EU citizen, you can to the National Institute
of Employment (INEM) in your local town and register
as a job seeker. You can then start to look for work.
There tends to be greater employment opportunities in
coastal areas but be warned that much of this work is
seasonal (i.e. Summer only). If possible, obtain a work
contract from your employer covering a period of six
months as this will give you some protection. Your employer
should also sort out your Spanish Social Security for
you and tax and national insurance should be deducted
from your wages, as in the UK. Be prepared, however,
for a bit of a culture shock. Spanish wages tend to
be far lower than in the UK (although the lower cost
of living evens things out).
