Postal
Services
There should be a Post Office in every village. It
is called “Correos” and has a distinctive
yellow sign. Street letter boxes are also painted yellow.
The Post Office opens from 08.30 until 2.00pm Monday
to Saturday. Stamps (called “Cellios”) are
also available from Tobacconist shops.
Spanish mail can be quite slow and erratic so allow
plenty of time when sending correspondence abroad. Many
letter boxes are not emptied on a daily basis so, if
possible, always post your correspondence at the Post
Office itself. Any package larger than a letter will
not be left at your premises if you are not there to
receive it. You will receive a Correos form which you
then have to take to the Post Office (along with Passport
or other photographic ID) in order to collect your mail.
Be prepared for long waits if you arrive at busy times.
