Insurance
If you are not covered by the Spanish Social Security
system, it is imperative that you take out private health
cover. There are many companies you can obtain quotes
from (e.g. BUPA on www.bupa-intl.com)
and many websites offering to obtain quotes for Expats
living or working abroad (e.g.
www.phaexpat.com). It
is worthwhile taking the time to investigate fully the
facilities on offer, their relevance to your region
and, of course, value for money. Make sure your personal
insurance covers every eventuality as (for example)
your Spanish health insurance may not cover car accidents
(cover is usually provided under Spanish car insurance)
and if you have UK car insurance, this aspect may not
be covered by either policy, leaving you with potentially
bankrupting bills.
Due to the large Ex-pat communities located around
the coast, you should not find it difficult to locate
an English or English speaking insurance broker. Property
and contents should, of course, be covered as it would
in the UK. Please ensure, however, that you use a reputable
insurer and that you are fully aware of cover given
and claims conditions.
