Bullfighting
One of the most enduring images of Spain, bullfighting is still at the core of Spanish culture, despite the contentions surrounding this sport. Most major towns still boast a bull-ring and bulls are specially bred for the ring, making their first (and only) appearance at around 4 years old and weighing between 500 and 800 kilos. The fight follows a strict progression, allowing a skilled matador to exhibit all his skill and stamina. Bullfighting season in Spain usually falls between April and October and local events are advertised in the Spanish press and on posters.
